Dino releases F-14D v0.95 / Sim-Outhouse Hacked.

Dino Cattaneo has released v0.95 of his F-14 Tomcat.

Dino states that he will not have much time to work on it in this days, nor thinks he will have time anytime soon... But did get rid of some of the most annoying issues (namely the a/b bleed and the misplacement of the formation lights).

He has also did some adjustments to the nose and canopy geometry, while missiles have been redone from scratch.

I guess some users have there complaints of the model. I for one love the model and I say to those critics who bitch and complain about the small stuff... if you think you can do a better job than what Dino has done (which I doubt you can) keep your mouth shut and enjoy what he has created for us or make an F-14 yourself. You are lucky its free. I think he understands that there is still stuff wrong with the model and like he has said before he will get to it when hes ready and has the time. The man has a life too you know. So instead of rivet counting.... go fly! Its what its all about anyway.

VERSION 0.95
Changes from previous release as follows:

*Fixed formation lights
*A/B effect coding redone (effect bleeding through fuselage when a/b is off should have been fixed)
*Fixed non working pitot heat switch
*Cleaned several cockpit texture glitches and added shadows (courtesy of Brandon Templeton)
*Reworked nose and canopy geometry
*Redone AIM-7 and AIM-9 models-Fixed minor glitches in the cockpit geometry
*Minor tweaks to the flight model (reduced maneuverability)
*Closed minor openings in the cockpit model (scenery bleed through geometry)
*Removed smoke effect call (smoke effect presence was a mistake - this was left there from an early F-14A build, but afaik GE engines do not produce so much smoke. I had removed the effect on my system but the entry was still there...)
*Fixed wing sweep indicator behaviour (but will not yet detect oversweep)
*Fixed flap lever animation (reversed)

****All older download links will be deactivated immediatedly.****
You can find the latest release v0.95 HERE.

Thank you Dino for such an awesome aircraft, your the man =)

In the mist of all the flight sim community websites being hacked yet another has fallen victim to the low lives. Sim-Outhouse was hacked and looks like the only damage done here was that the hacker was able to steal peoples passwords. SO if you log into sim-outhouse please change your password. Monday June 29th

Well I hope you all had an outstanding weekend. I sure did =) I found that IRIS Simulations/ Audioworx has released their new sound package for their upcoming release of the F-16D. I hope this means the release of the Fighting Falcon is nearing. Also hope its not as frame intensive as the Aerosoft F-16A/C.

"The IRIS AudioworX F-16 sound-pack for FSX is our very first sound-pack release for Microsoft Flight Simulator X.

Designed and developed for the upcoming IRIS Pro Series F-16D, this product has been tested in various other freeware and commercial military jets including the Aerosoft F-16.

This product features all new sounds recorded from the interior and exterior of the Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon, along with custom sounds for the VMS or Bitching Betty which have been developed for incorporation with the GPWS and various other warning sounds such as over-speed warnings and stall warnings.

All in all, we are very happy with the end result of this product and we are confident that you will enjoy the new audio experience that this sound-pack brings to your favourite military aircraft, be it the F-16 Fighting Falcon or any other single engine military jet!

Grab it from the IRIS Store today!"

Sundays Random Thoughts

Just browsing through some forums and websites I found that Flight Replicas is working on a Super Cub.

*****************************CLICK ON PICTURES TO ENLARGE****************************

They do have one freeware aircraft called the Mini-Max which you can find HERE. It may be a simple bird but the quality is very high. A must have if you like ultralight aircraft. The Mini-Max is a popular homebuilt ultralight aircraft. Built of wood, with fabric covering, and with a Rotax 2-stroke engine, these aircraft are a fun and affordable way to fly.

Features:
Fully working VC (with the exception of the radio, which is available as a 2-D gauge)
Animated pilot head
Authentic Rotax sounds, created by the inimitable Bill Lyons

Late Saterday Night

I was toying around with flight sim this afternoon and I found a repaint for Dino Cattaneos F-14D. It looks pretty good. It is VF-31 Tomcatters. You can find it at sim-outhouse HERE. There are a few things with the paints that are messed up such as reversed text.

Another aircraft I dabbled with today was the A-22 Foxbat by Rick Piper. You can find this aircraft HERE. It is such a nice aircraft I would recommend it to anyone.

And the last bird I was messing around with is the Evektor EV97 Eurostar.
This is a complete package with custom sound and gauges, 2D panels & virtual cockpit. This release includes one version modeled on OH-U507, and also a Basic-T panel version. If you like to check it out you need to download this first http://files.fsnordic.net/?download=2157. Then download and install the update http://files2.fsnordic.net/files/zip/General_Aviation/EV97_V11_080113.zip so that it will work in service pack 2. (******I found that the links dont work immediately but if you highlight the link in your browser then push the enter key the download box will appear.******) Then you need to go to the texture folder named OH-U402 find the glass bmp and prop bmp and copy and paste it into the other texture folders so you can see out the window. It is quite a joy to fly actually.Evektor EV97

Happy Friday you nuts!

Happy Friday my fellow flight Sim nuts! I hope you have an outstanding weekend.

First thing today is Just Flight War bird of WWII.
Fly some of WWII's most famous fighting aircraft. The F-4U Corsair, P-47
Thunderbolt, P-38 Lightning, Mosquito and Spitfire join forces in this great value
pack for Flight Simulator X and 2004. There are two variants of each aircraft and
they all come with authentic markings, high quality flight models, state-of-the-art
animations and are re-created to a phenomenal level of detail. Reach for the skies
and enjoy some classic prop aviation!
* The ten high quality models are accompanied by many unique animations and
superb textures covering a range of aircraft, along with the distinctive sounds of
the different engines.
* The cockpits are equipped with the latest "smooth" gauges for more realism
and just about every switch, button and control lever operates with the mouse.
Everything is historically and technically authentic right down to the panel bolts
and brackets.
* The exterior models are finely detailed with correct movement for the flaps,
radiator shutters, rudders, elevators, bomb doors and landing gear.
* Many novel effects are featured, including dropping of ordnance, smoke and
firing guns.
* Read all about it! Extensive printed manual with details of how to get airborne in
each of these beautiful birds.

Another cool thing my bro Todd pointed out to me this week was this contraption.....

The Dreamflyer™ is lightweight and compact, requires no power and virtually no maintenance. The 3' x 6' footprint enables the Dreamflyer™ to easily fit into any room in the house; it can even be stored in a closet. The black powder-coated aluminum frame and sports seat provide a pleasing appearance enabling the Dreamflyer™ to fit into any decor. The sports seat provides a comfortable virtual experience. The patent-pending gimbal inner-frame responds to the actions of the control stick in real time.
Dreamflyer™ captures the motion based on simple gravitational movements of the chair initiated by the user in response to the views on the screen. By using gravitational force to generate motions, the Dreamflyer™ has eliminated the need for hydraulics and motors, and associated costly maintenance.
The unit is shipped unassembled in two boxes. Your shipment will include assembly instructions, product warranty and a User Manual to assist you in configuring the Saitek controls to your preferred settings.
Once assembled you then add your monitor (or monitors if you have purchased the tri-mount bracket assembly) and plug the two USB connectors into your computer.
Depending on your weight and the weight of the monitor(s) that you add, you may need to adjust the offsetting weight adjustment located at the rear of the pilot seat. Instructions are included. You are now ready to play!
The Dreamflyer™ 'basic' unit includes the motion chassis, single-monitor bracket, replica pilot seat, Saitek throttle, control stick and rudder pedals (monitors, software and balancing weights not included).

I seen on simviation that Danny Garnier has made the Coral F-15 flyable in FSX. The Coral F-15 was another of my favorites in FS9 and Im glad to see it ported over so thanks Danney for taking the time to port it over for us!

The other day I had a topic on gauges and other hardware for you flight sim. One of the products I had mentioned was VRInsight product. One of Avsims senior reviewers just posted a review on their products today. You can find the full review at AVSIM.

Home Cockpit Controls and Gauges and F-14D UPDATE

I would like to talk about cockpit controls and gauges for your flight simulator. There are a few websites I would like to point you to if you are interested in taking your flight sim experience another step further.

The first website I would like to point you to is a very well known brand called Saitek. They have a new Pro Flight Series that look really nice. They just recently released the Pro Flight Instrument Panel which is a 3.5 inch LCD screen and acts basically as an MFD.

The next website I would like to point you to is another well known brand in the flight sim community. CH Products does both gaming joysticks as well industrial joysticks. In the gaming categorie they do everything from multi function panels, yokes, joysticks, throttles, and rudder pedals. In the industrial side they produce finger operated joysticks, hand grip joysticks, trackballs, and switches.

The next website is called GoFlight. They produce modules to racks to whole systems that cost a couple grand.

The next website I'll point you to is VRInsight. Its a new site for me I just recently found it on an ad somewhere. Their products look nice though.

Im sure there are others out there, some probably better than others but this just gives you an idea whats availiable. I hope this was helpful. On another note if you are having troubles with my blog i.e. pictures or videos not showing up please inform me so I can fix any discrepencies. Thanks alot.

Dino to release Tomcat

Welcome to Monday.....the most dreaded day of the week. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend and spent it with the ones you love. I know I did for sure.

Good news today! Dino Cattaneo says that he is ready to release his F-14D to the public. He states on his blog that "I've just finished compiling a build that I consider "good for release". I think the visual model is Ok, the flight model does its job and the cockpit is working. I am not completely satisfied with the cockpit quality level as it is full of bugs: some buttons are still inoperative, or mapped incorrectly and some gauges do not work as they should. BUT, as it is unlikely I will have enough time to fix those bugs in the next couple of weeks I have decided to release it as is."

I believe Dino will probably release a series of service packs just like he has done with his T-45C Goshawk. Good things take time to make. Take your time with it Dino, Im sure it will be just as great as your Goshawk. I cant wait to take the Tomcat up tomorrow. I think I may take her to my old stomping ground, NAS Oceana and head to Fentress for some FCLPs before considering taking it out to the carrier. I will post a download link once it is availible to the public.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just found out today that IRIS Simulations is in going to be adding a new addition to their Pro Series. They are adding the F-16D Fighting Falcon. I havent got word on a release date yet but I did find a YouTube video which you can watch HERE. IRIS is also adding a new division to their company called IRIS AudioworX. You can check it out on the link provided above.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok here it is. Dino finally released the Tomcat. Man what a bird! Get it while its hot. F-14D v0.9

Happy Fathers Day!

Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers out there. I hope you all have a good and safe weekend!

Friday, June 19, 2009

Happy Friday once again. I hope you all have a great weekend, I know I will!

No news on Dinos Cattaneos F-14 Tomcat being released yet, the last I heard is that it was pretty much ready for release with the exception of just a few things to fix but he was confident it would have been release by this weekend. I have my fingers crossed.

Me and Dave from FlightSim Hangout have planned a flight for tonight on FSX gamespy.Flight plan is as followed:
DEPARTURE: KPAE - Snohomish County WA
ARRIVAL: KVUO - Pearson Field, Vancouver WA
VFR - 4500' or as ATC advises.
Departure time 1800PST
Make sure you show up earlier than 1800 Pacific Time. The gamespy server name is WWW.FLIGHTSIMHANGOUT.COM <--all caps. We are planning on taking some props so plan for a low and slow flight. You can read more info on our events page HERE

Aerosoft has released the Mallorca X Scenery for FSX. Oh I have fond memories of Palma Mallorca when we would make port visits when I was in the Navy. Many were either drunken blurs or walking down the beach not realizing it was a nude beach ***Giggity*** I even remember watching the planes come in for landing while getting drunk on the beach with my shipmates hehe. Oh Palma..... Anyway I may give this scenery a try just to check it out.

Well I was finally able to sit down and download Tim Conrad's newest creation... the Zlin Z-50L. Man what a powerful little plane. It is truly an acrobatic aircraft for sure and really fun to fly. Stupid me forgot to take some screenshots. But I think its another must have if your fan of Tim Conrad's work. And yes there is his signature little pouch for your dogie treats and aircraft id tag with aircraft info & the "Made by Piglets Peculiar Planes" with the little pig on it. Hes even got a repaint for it with his beloved German Sheppard Ben who is now passed on. R.I.P. little buddy. I'm a huge dog fan too and have 2 dogs of my own so I can understand his loss. They are truly mans best friend (besides Google)!

Along with downloading Tim's Zlin I also downloaded and installed the Bellanca Super Decathlon Package. It is a port over from FS2004 originally by the Long Island Classics Design Team. Panel updated for FSX with FS Panel Studio by Danny Garnier. It is a nice little taildragger. Again not thinking I didnt take any screenshots so my apology's. You can find both the Zlin Decathlon
HERE

Wednesday, June 17, 2009

Good morning all. Its hump day once again but do not fret Friday is just around the corner so hang in there. Just taking a look at Simviation and found that Tim Conrad is still alive. Tim "Piglet" Conrad is one of my favorite freeware modelers. Today he brings us the Zlin Z-50L Czech aerobatic aircraft. I wont be able to "Czech" it out until later on this evening but I'm sure I wont be disappointed. =) You can get the Zlin Z-50L HERE.

Logitech G940

Logitech Flight System G940 Delivers Simulator-Grade Flying Experience, Authentic Controls, Realistic Force Feedback

LOS ANGELES — E3 — June 2, 2009 — To provide flight simulation enthusiasts with a realistic experience, Logitech (SIX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI) today unveiled the Logitech® Flight System G940. The latest addition to the acclaimed Logitech G-series line of gaming peripherals and the company’s first force-feedback flight simulation controller, the design and controls of the Flight System G940 were inspired by military and commercial planes and helicopters.

“There’s nothing ordinary about a G-series gaming peripheral, and the G940 is no different,” said Ruben Mookerjee, Logitech’s director of product marketing for gaming. “We approached this project with the goal of redefining the flight sim experience. Whether you’re flying an A380, an F/A-18 Hornet or a Comanche helicopter, when you want to feel the wind on your wings, control engines together or independently or master tricky maneuvers, the G940 behaves and feels like the real thing – from takeoff to landing.”

For an immersive experience, the three-component Logitech Flight System G940 features a force feedback joystick, dual throttle and rudder pedals. And, with more than 250 programmable button options integrated into a fully featured HOTAS (or Hands On Throttle-and-Stick) design, you’re able to access critical aircraft systems without taking your hands off the controls.

The system is also easy to set up; just connect the throttle and the pedals to the joystick cable, and plug the USB connector into your computer. And all components feature mounting hard points, making it easy to secure them to a surface. The Flight System G940 is compatible with most popular PC flight simulators, including Microsoft® Flight Simulator X, IL-2 Sturmovik™: 1946 and Lock On: Modern Air Combat X-Plane 9.

Force Feedback Joystick
For added realism, the Flight System G940 joystick features Logitech’s award-winning force feedback technology, which allows you to control your aircraft with confidence as you feel its movement as well as its reaction to air, turbulence and g-forces. Unlike vibration feedback or rumble technology, force feedback is directionally precise and tactile, so you get an accurate simulation of the forces experienced in the game.

Featuring a two-stage metal trigger, six programmable buttons, mini-stick, 8-way hat and three analog trim controls, the Flight System G940 joystick is designed to put you in complete control of your aircraft. And to ensure comfort during long flights, the joystick has a wide, solid base, a palm rest, a slight forward tilt of the stick and soft touch surface.

Programmable Dual Throttle
To give you realistic control over any aircraft, the Flight System G940 features a split throttle design, for easy control of multi-engine aircraft. When flying a single engine aircraft, a push-button interlocks the throttles for a more comfortable experience.

The interactive, programmable throttle-base buttons integrate with your favorite flight simulation software and illuminate red, green, amber or off to indicate the status of critical aircraft systems – just like they would in a real cockpit. For your convenience, Logitech includes 80 pre-designed legend inserts that slip into the buttons, making it easy to create an authentic switch panel with, for example, GPS, autopilot and landing-gear controls.

In addition to the eight programmable base-buttons, the Flight System G940 provides two eight-way hat switches, four programmable grip buttons and two rotary analog-controls. The included Logitech® Gaming Software allows you to assign virtually every possible control to the G940 in just a few steps.

Authentic Pedals
The pedals – the four-bar mechanism, inspired by the designs of current jet fighters – feature an open frame design with rudder controls and toe brakes, giving you true-to-life control, especially when performing defensive maneuvers or crosswind landings, or piloting helicopters. An adjustable pedal-force knob lets you change the resistance to fit your flying style. And for added comfort, the pedal base has carpet grips and heel rests to keep the pedals and your feet in place even during the most difficult maneuvers.

Pricing and Availability
The Logitech Flight System G940 is expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe in September for a suggested retail price of $299.99 (U.S.).

What a Weekend

I hope all of you had a great weekend. My weekend was quite eventful after my computer took a dump I had the absolute pleasure of getting to reinstall the whole operating system and start over from scratch. Good thing about a clean slate now is that everything runs excellent.

Im trying to collect my thoughts here as a storm is brewing outside the house. Ah, got to love the storms out here in the Mid-West. Over the weekend on Saturday we had a rogue storm just pop out from no where and within 3 minutes the weather alert went from severe thunderstorm watch, to severe thunderstorm warning, to a tornado on the ground. Im from WV originally so Ive never been exposed to weather so unpredictible, it just dont happen there......and there goes my power =) Good thing Im on the laptop typing this. If it continues to deteriorate I may have to log off. Hopefully it will hold off a few minutes longer.

Good news for all you Naval Aviation fanatics like myself, I was just taking a look at Dino Catteneos blog and I see he has updated his T-45C Goshawk and it should be availible sometime today. Also he states that with just a few tweaks a few minor adjustments his F-14 should be availible to the public before this coming weekend. HAPPY TIMES!!!! Also Dino reported that Javier Fernandez has released his Nimitz carriers for FSX. If I read correctly they are just AI but I could be wrong. Anyway for an AI ship it looks awesome and Im sure someone will make it drivable for multiplayer if its not already. It also comes in different variations such as launch, recovery and "man at rails".

Project Opensky releases their P-8C Poseidon which is a variant of the Boeing 737 that is going to be replacing the US Navys aging Turbo Prop driven P-3C Orion. Not sure if it has a virtual cockpit....never did understand Project Openskys philosophy about not putting the whole aircraft together, they make you do it yourself which is a big pain and hassle. I think if they would start releasing whole aircraft instead of pieces they would have a much larger fan base. But thats just my opinion.

more to come after the storms rumble through. Hey! Try to have a good Monday! =)

COMING SOON!!!

FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME CARENADO IS MAKING A TWIN ENGINE!!
PA - 34 Seneca II
Full FSX and DX10 Supported!!!

The Seneca was developed as a twin-engine version of the Cherokee Six.
The Seneca II was introduced responding to complaints about the aircraft's handling qualities
of the previous version (the version I). The aircraft was certified on 1974 and introduced as a model
the following year. The Seneca II introduced "club seating" whereby the two center-row seats face
rearwards and the two back seats face forward allowing more legroom in the passenger cabin.
You will enjoy this powerful aircraft very soon with the quality of all Carenado products.

Check it out HERE.

Well there wasnt really anything new in the flight sim world this weekend. Was kinda boring actually lol. Sunday was my birthday but I was feeling under the weather so I didnt do much of anything. Anything thats really new is that Crazieman from Flight Sim Nation made a HD Red Bull texure for the dodo sim Bell 206 which you can get HERE. Well I hope you all had a good weekend. HippyHappy Request Blocker

Have you ever been in a middle of a flight in FSX or better yet have you ever tried to fly formation and then all of the sudden you get a friend request from someone you have never even flown with. Or maybe you get a chat request from a buddy but dont really feel like chatting. Or maybe your trying to run a server and everyone who joins the server sends you friend request. Well if you dont acknowledge those request in a certain amount of time you will be automatically removed from Gamespy. Frustrating isnt it!? I cant even count how many times this has happened to me and I end up cursing up a storm like Yosemite Sam. Well this little gem from FSX Tools will put those annoying request to a stop. You simply run this little program in the background seperately from FSX. Thats all there is to it, the blocker does the rest. You can get the HippyHappy Request Blocker HERE. I havent had any issues with this yet so I would suggest you give it a try. Let me know how it works out for you! On a side note if you guys have any questions or comments please feel free to leave a comment here in the blog.

FullFlap.TV

For you real world aviation enthusiast FullFlap.TV has not been around very long but I find it quite entertaining. A bunch of crazy Brits going on little flying adventures. Sometimes they will race across the U.K. to see which mode of transportation is faster i.e. public transportation vs. a cessna 172 . Or they will go to a local airshow and show you what the buzz around the tarmac is. Check it out when you get a chance. A great plus is that if you missed an episode you can go back and watch it. You can even put the show on your ipod. So like i said check it out HERE. Or I have it embedded at the bottom of my blog. Enjoy.

Tomcat On the Horizon

Those of you who have downloaded and flown the recent FSX version of the T-45C Goshawk v1.80 by Dino Cattaneo know that he did such an awesome job on this freeware bird. Well taking a quick glance at his blog yesterday Im here to tell you he is at it again and this time he is bringing his old F-14 back to life for FSX. The virtual cockpit and exterior of the aircraft looks phenominal. I swear he is getting better and better all the time! The Tomcat is still in the beta phases and Dino is going to release it to the public as freeware possibly within the beginning weeks of June. Then he is off on yet another project which will be his first payware. More on that to come.
Here are a couple pictures from Dinos blog....

Flight Sim Nation

I found Flight Sim Nation about a year ago on FSX. Such a diverse and talented group of people. Their server is the one I use the most so I figured I would blog about them first.

About Us
Flight Sim Nation is a new and growing community started by a few
guys tired of the way things are and decided to start thinking of how things
could be. . .

quoted straight from www.flightsimnation.com A more indepth review on them coming soon in the near future

First Blog

First and foremost welcome to my blog. Im still learning about the whole blogging experience so please bare with me for this is my first blog ever. I intend to use this blog for information pertaining to Microsoft Flight Simulator and although my flight simming experience goes back almost 12 years I will probably be aiming more toward Flight Simulator X topics. But if you have any questions about any previous flight simulator issues please feel free to ask.
